About Crowdmail
Crowdmail is a listings service for sending parcels with fellow travellers. It brings two people together: someone who needs to get something to another city or country, and someone who is going there anyway. The site has been running since 2009.
Why it exists
Sending a small parcel to another city or country is something traditional logistics does badly. The post takes weeks, and on international routes the timing is unpredictable. Couriers are faster, but for a folder of documents, a pack of medicine or a box of sweets their rate is often comparable to the value of the item itself. On top of that come restrictions on what can be sent, questions at customs, and the impossibility of handing something over in person.
Meanwhile people travel the same routes every day — by car, train and plane — and most of them have spare room in their luggage. For a fellow traveller, carrying a small parcel costs almost nothing: they are making the journey anyway. Crowdmail connects the two sides: the person who needs to send something finds the person who is already going.
Most often people pass on documents and certificates, medicines, small electronics, gifts and treats, and things left behind or set aside during a move. That is exactly what fits badly into mass delivery but fits easily into someone else's suitcase.
What you can do here
- Send a parcel — post a request and find a fellow traveller who will take it to the city or country you need.
- Offer a trip — take a parcel along a route you are planning anyway, and cover part of the cost of the journey.
- Offer or find a place to stay for a short time.
You can see what is happening right now in the listings: parcels and travel companions are shown separately. If you are choosing a flight, there is a flight planner.
What Crowdmail is not
It is not a transport company or a delivery service. We do not carry goods, store them or act as an intermediary in handing things over. Crowdmail is a noticeboard: the service helps people find each other, and the parties agree all the terms — timing, price, meeting place — directly between themselves.
We cannot guarantee that cargo will be kept safe or delivered: for that, turn to transport companies. The sender is fully responsible for what is in the parcel, and the person carrying it is responsible for the carriage. That is why there is one important rule: never agree to carry a parcel whose contents you have not been shown. Before agreeing anything, read the rules and the list of items that must not be sent — on international routes this matters especially.
How to get in touch
You can agree things with the author of a listing right on the site, or through our Telegram bot @crowdmail_bot (the bot speaks Russian only). It passes messages between the parties without revealing contact details without your consent.
Questions about the service itself, suggestions and complaints about listings can be sent to [email protected] — we read everything.
